From 19.1.02:
Last night we had headed to the miner?s mess hall, nestled in the hills, which exceeded expectations from last year?s great feed. Whilst there we scouted the hills, arriving at an observatory point where a sunset unmatched was consumed. It really appeared as if the sky was Mars, about to hit the earth!

The initial icy steps departing Norseman were the toughest of the trip thus far. Entering the longest ?unaided? section of road was a daunting prospect. For the first time in the last 6 months, I felt anxious about water. A little Vangelis had me calmed and I ?settled? into an awkward rhythm as the cold was not assisting fluid motion. Day 13?s total was 30.9km - pleasing with our rest in Norseman.

With lunch at a truck stop 30km out, we pressed on and made camp at 8:30pm.
