The Fred Hollows
Foundation
A charity
restoring site
The Foundation has also revolutionised attitudes
- it is now widely accepted that modern cataract surgery can
and should be taken to all people in need around the world.

Truthfully, this run across Australia is important personally,
but I will derive the greatest satisfaction from knowing that my
efforts have allowed 1000 people to see again. With cataract removal
costing as little as $25 per eye in some places, this is feasible.
In the toughest moments of my run, perhaps the initial hours,
when I feel as though I can't continue, I will recall the appalling
eyesight rates in Australia and abroad, knowing that another step,
another kilometre run, is another dollar raised that may help bring
back the gift of sight to another.

And when the run is over, the light of Fred Hollows will be burning
brightly, but it will not be a time to rest on one's laurels. There
is a perpetual job to restore eyesight to those still living in
a world of darkness and to educate those in a world of light.
The long road is ahead, and I seek your generosity and support
in my 'See Australia' Run. The
Fred Hollows Foundation notes in its Vision and Mission that its
most important asset is the quality of its relationship with individual
donors and supporters.

Fred's life was spent in the service of an unswerving belief that
the answer to human misery is action, not despair. As people blessed
with vision, in the world's luckiest country, we have an obligation
to share what we have.
